Skilltage vs Brainner: AI CV screening compared
Choose Brainner when you want a screening layer on top of a large ATS, with fraud and identity checks. Choose Skilltage when you want requirement-level evidence, a follow-up question for what the CV left unclear, and candidate communication in one EU-hosted workflow.
Brainner and Skilltage both read CVs against the criteria for a role and explain each judgement. Brainner adds fraud checks and one-click ATS connections. Skilltage carries the work further: unclear points become a focused follow-up question, and the recruiter prepares every message in the same place.
Skilltage and Brainner side by side
- What it is
- AI-assisted CV evaluation and candidate review, from the job brief to the candidate messages, beside your existing ATS.
- An AI resume screening layer that connects to an existing ATS, with fraud detection and identity checks.
- Criteria
- Drafts a job brief and structured requirements from the recruiter's description of the role; the recruiter edits and approves them.
- Drafts screening criteria from the job description; recruiters edit them and mark each as mandatory or preferred.
- How the reading is explained
- Evidence, gaps and open questions for each requirement, beside the original CV.
- A written justification for each criterion, pointing to a line in the resume, an application answer or another source. Candidates are ordered by alignment.
- When the CV is silent
- The requirement is marked unclear, not failed. The recruiter can send a clarification email or one focused video question through Skilltage Unscripted.
- The criterion is shown as not met in the justification. Follow-up happens in your ATS or other tools.
- Candidate communication
- Interview invitations, clarification drafts, interview preparation and rejection emails, each previewed and sent by a person.
- Advance and reject decisions sync back to the ATS, where communication is handled.
- Data hosting
- Data hosted in the EU (Frankfurt). EU AI Act documentation is maintained for CV sorting and candidate evaluation.
- Brainner states SOC 2 Type II certification. Its screening page does not state a hosting region.
- Pricing
- Start with free evaluations, then pay as you go or choose a monthly plan. Every subscription includes one technical integration agreed with the Skilltage team.
- Not shown on Brainner's site. A software directory lists usage-based plans from $249 a month.
Which one fits your hiring?
Skilltage fits when
- You want gaps treated as questions to ask, not as reasons to filter a candidate out.
- You want screening, follow-up and candidate messages in one place, with a person sending each one.
- EU data hosting matters to you or your candidates.
- You hire for a few roles at a time and want to start with free evaluations.
Brainner fits when
- You run a large ATS such as Greenhouse, Lever or Workday and want a screening layer connected in one click.
- Fake or misrepresented applications are a real problem and you want fraud and identity checks.
- Your team already handles follow-up and communication in the ATS.
Working with your ATS
Both tools sit beside an ATS rather than replacing it. With Skilltage, every Starter, Regular Hiring and High Volume subscription includes one technical integration with your current recruitment process, agreed with the Skilltage team, and recruiters can upload PDF CVs from any channel.
Gaps are questions, not verdicts
CVs leave things out. A criterion marked as not met can mean the candidate lacks the experience, or only that they did not write it down. Skilltage marks those requirements as unclear and lets the recruiter ask about them before deciding.
One follow-up question, in the candidate's own words
When one point matters, the recruiter can ask one focused question. The candidate answers by email or records a short video through Skilltage Unscripted, chooses the take they submit, and the recruiter reviews it with a transcript in view.
From reading to writing
Once the recruiter has decided, Skilltage drafts the next message: an interview invitation, a clarification, interview preparation or a respectful rejection. A person previews, edits and sends each one.
Frequently asked questions
- Is Skilltage an alternative to Brainner?
- Yes, for reading CVs against role requirements. Skilltage does not offer fraud or identity checks. It adds a follow-up question for unclear points and candidate communication drafts in the same workflow.
- Does Skilltage reject candidates?
- No. Skilltage shows evidence for human review. The recruiter selects every review state and sends every message.
- Can Skilltage tell if a CV was written with AI?
- No. Skilltage does not try to guess who used AI. It surfaces the concrete experience in each CV and shows what the CV supports, what it leaves out and what is unclear.
- Where is candidate data stored?
- Skilltage hosts its data in the EU, in Frankfurt. AI processing is done by a subprocessor listed on the subprocessor page, and candidate evidence is deleted six months after a hiring case is closed.
